Jaafar Latiff: Beyond the Familiar

Jaafar Latiff: Beyond the Familiar, supported by RHT Rajan Menon Foundation, was featured in The Straits Times as one of the highlights of Singapore Art Week 2020.

Jaafar Latiff’s (1937-2007) large scale acrylic works is a reflection of how fresh and relevant this second generation artist’s works have stayed. Jaafar began his early career in batik, and eventually moved on to more abstract works combining batik and acrylics. The exhibition features 26 works from the artist’s estate spanning over 40 years of his career.

It includes lesser known computer art and calligraphic pieces as well as a 2m 1978 abstract expressionistic batik painting, Wandering Wonder 3/78.

The exhibition is supported by RHT Rajan Menon Foundation and is curated by Syed Muhd Hafiz. Exhibition opens daily at ArtSpace@Helutrans, 39 Keppel Road, Tanjong District Park, Singapore 089065 from 9th – 19th January 2020.
